Yo Maps Faces Backlash After Donation Controversy at Dandy Krazy’s Funeral

Zambian musician Yo Maps recently faced public scrutiny following his contributions to the funeral of fellow artist Dandy Krazy. Yo Maps donated 40 bags of mealie meal and live chickens to support the funeral proceedings. However, controversy arose when he publicly expressed frustration over perceived ingratitude from some individuals who benefited from his donations, leading to accusations of boasting.
In response to his remarks, some recipients reportedly returned the donated items to Yo Maps’ residence. Videos circulating on social media depicted bags of mealie meal and live chickens left outside his gate, which were subsequently looted by onlookers.
The incident drew criticism from the Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM). ZAM President Davison Munsanda stated that Yo Maps’ comments were disrespectful to Dandy Krazy’s grieving family and detrimental to the music industry’s unity. Munsanda emphasized that many artists contributed to the funeral without seeking public acknowledgment and urged Yo Maps to retract his statements and apologize.
In light of the controversy, fellow musician Macky 2 advised Yo Maps to remain focused on his goals and not to engage in the negativity surrounding the incident. He also called for respect towards Dandy Krazy’s family during their time of mourning.
Yo Maps responded to the backlash by questioning ZAM’s impartiality, accusing the association of selectively addressing conflicts within the industry. He called for fairness and equal representation for all artists, emphasizing the need for mutual respect and support.
The episode has sparked discussions about the importance of humility, respect, and unity among artists, especially during sensitive times such as funerals.
