Lily T A Zambian Music Icon

Lily Tembo, popularly known as Lily T, was a Zambian musician, radio presenter, and journalist. She was born on November 20, 1981, in Kabwe, Zambia, and grew up in a family that loved music. Her father played the African bongo, while her mother and sisters sang in church, which inspired her love for music.

Tembo attended Kabulonga Girls High School in Lusaka before studying journalism at Evelyn Hone College. She later worked as a newsreader for 5th FM Radio in Lusaka.

In 2004, she released her first album, Lily T, which made her famous in Zambia. The album earned her two awards, and she was recognized by BBC Africa as a promising African artist who stayed true to traditional music. In 2006, she released her second album and was working on her third before she passed away.

Aside from music and journalism, Tembo was also involved in charity work, using her platform to help others. Her talent and dedication to music and media made her one of Zambia’s most beloved artists.

Sadly, Lily Tembo passed away on September 14, 2009, but her music and legacy continue to inspire many in Zambia and beyond.
