Namibian Authorities Detain Zambian Music Star Yo Maps Over Immigration Issues
Namibian authorities have detained Zambian music sensation Elton Mulenga, popularly known as Yo Maps, over immigration-related issues. Sources report that Mr. Mulenga allegedly went to Namibia and held a performance without proper authorization.
Yo Maps reportedly informed Namibian immigration authorities that he was in the country for a personal visit, not for business purposes. He is now expected to appear in court to address these allegations.
Immigration spokesperson Namati Nshinka stated that 86 Zambians, comprising 59 males and 27 females, were repatriated between July 10th and July 12th. They were received at the Katima Mulilo Border Control after being removed from Namibia’s Katima Mulilo Town for illegal entry and unlawful stay during a clean-up operation.
Investigations revealed that most of these individuals were residents of Shang’ombo, Sioma, and Senanga, and had traveled to Namibia seeking work as cattle herders and maids. Some Zambians claimed their employers reported them to authorities to avoid paying them for their work.
He urged Zambians intending to migrate to other countries to follow legal channels, including acquiring necessary travel documents and immigration permits, to avoid arrest, prosecution, removal, and deportation.
