Yo Maps’ Manager Fined for Firing Gunshots at Ndola Nightclub
Evans Nsongela, also known as Kandeke, the manager of popular Zambian musician Yo Maps, has been fined K300 for firing gunshots at Bojangles nightclub in Ndola. The incident happened on February 3 at around 03:07 hours.
According to prosecutor Mike Mwalila, Chikoti Mulendwe, a club patron, heard the shots while taking a phone call outside. Bouncers later apprehended Kandeke, who was reportedly drunk. During investigations, Mulendwe told the police that Kandeke had pointed a firearm at him, causing panic. Officers recovered spent cartridges from the scene as evidence.
In his defense, Kandeke, who was unrepresented, claimed he was provoked by an unidentified person. He admitted his mistake and assured the court he had learned from the incident.
Ndola Magistrate Brian Simachela ordered Kandeke to pay the fine within 24 hours or face six months in prison. Additionally, he was instructed to surrender his firearm and ammunition to the court for 60 days, after which he may apply for their return.
The magistrate questioned why Kandeke was charged with a lesser offense, despite allegedly pointing a gun at someone, which could have led to a more serious charge like threatening violence. He reminded the National Prosecution Authority of its duty to assign appropriate charges.
Kandeke’s case has raised concerns about how such incidents are handled legally.
